Matt Clarke - Customer Relationship Manager (London & South East Sales Team)
There’s no such thing as a typical day for Matt. He spends a lot of time out and about - talking to the curriculum teams at FE colleges about City & Guilds qualifications and services, delivering presentations, conducting training events, helping new centres with their applications, presenting awards to outstanding students – the list is practically endless! And, Matt points out, there are a few perks too; ‘I like getting involved with exhibitions that interest me such as catering. There is always free food and I can sniff out a free beer at 100 paces. At a recent chefs’ competition I ended up having lunch with Gary Rhodes’
Matt’s background is in commercial sales and account management, where presentation skills, a proactive approach and an outgoing personality are essential. He chose City & Guilds as he likes the variety the job offers and the fact that there’s lots of interaction with our customers. It’s hard work and the hours can be long and unsocial but Matt enjoys the buzz and the ‘free reign to service clients and develop relationships as I see fit.’
And Matt’s future? ‘I plan to stay with City & Guilds long term as it is a company that can provide a good career. There are different internal roles advertised all the time and as long as City & Guilds continues to grow as it is doing, many opportunities may arise. I would like the chance to travel and maybe work with international clients; I also aspire to manage a team in the future’.
