If you love the open road and are happy to roll up your sleeves and get stuck into some hard work, no matter what the weather, why not think about a job with a streetworks gang. People who complain about roads being dug up probably don’t appreciate how much is underneath them: gas mains, electricity and phone cables, and water mains.
And then you have the need to keep the thousands of miles of roads – from motorways to local roads – safe for vehicles and pedestrians to use. You could be quite busy!You don’t need any formal qualifications to become involved in streetworks, but recent changes in regulations now mean that at least one person on every job must be a qualified operative, and that any site must be managed by a qualified supervisor.
If you have the right qualification you could be far more valuable to an employer and have more opportunities to build your career and increase your pay.
