No. 8 Peter Dawson
Driving his way up the Rich List
Record profits from Dawsongroup prove that Peter made the right decision when he took the Milton Keynes-based asset rental operation private in 2000.
The group, which had been quoted on the stock market for twelve years, saw its profits rise from £21.8m to £23m on sales up sharply at £127.6m in 2005.
Peter joined his father's haulage group in 1956, over 20 years after it was set-up. Having originally served as an engineering apprentice, he worked to turn the Milton Keynes-based operation into one of the largest truck rental businesses in Europe. With his family trusts, he owns all the shares in the business, and has expanded its services to now also include temporary kitchens and cold storage.
