e-Quals 07 – Designer qualifications

Learners who want to opportunity to be more creative when using IT will be pleased with the changes we’ve made to e-Quals 07.
We have increased our range of units that cover website design and digital imaging.  So there is something for everyone at Levels 1 to 3 in the IT User qualifications.

Level 1 Designer units:
Working with desktop publishing applications
Creating simple web pages

Level 2 units:
Designing and creating multi-page documents using desktop publishing software
Using digital imaging to create and design presentations
Creating combined presentation design using ICT
Designing and creating multi-page websites

Level 3 units
Designing and creating advanced layouts using desktop publishing software
Designing and creating advanced websites
Designing and creating websites using Macromedia Dreamweaver
Designing and creating websites using Macromedia Flash
Visual communication using Adobe Photoshop

The assessments for the Dreamweaver and Flash units will be assessed by Certiport, who run the Adobe qualifications.

Don’t forget that, as e-Quals 07 has a multi-level approach, these units can be used at any level of the qualifications, so the Level 3 Dreamweaver unit could be used by a candidate registered for the Level 1 qualification.

ITQ Plus

City & Guilds is involved in delivering the pilot Certificate for IT Users (ITQ) for the Qualifications and Credit Framework (QCF) tests and trials.
This is an interesting project as it’s to looking towards new, more flexible, ways of recognising learner achievement.  The new format should mean that training providers can also develop more flexible and innovative approaches to learning.  The QCF will be a unit system based on ‘credits’ and the main aim of the tests and trials is to make sure that the QCF actually works.  While the ITQ QCF is based on the NVQ for IT Users, there are some differences eg no NVQ code of practice, which means no requirement for A1 assessors and no requirement for specific workplace assessment.

So it’s exciting times for IT User centres!

Using e-Quals to gain ITQ

You should already know that both e-Quals and e-Quals 07 have been fully mapped to ITQ and can be used as a Contributing Qualification to help achieve the N/SVQ for IT Users.   But did you also know that City & Guilds ITQ centres can just use the e Quals assignments as evidence for the ITQ optional units?  This means that your learners don’t need to be registered for e-Quals or e-Quals 07 to use the assignments to gain their ITQs!

Full Level 2 qualification

Don’t forget that the enhanced e-Quals Level 2 Diploma for IT Users is a Full Level 2 qualification, so gets preferential funding.  For further funding information, visit the Learning and Skills Council’s Learning Aim Database: http://providers.lsc.gov.uk/LAD/aims/searchcriteria.asp .
