Take a look at who has been out and about in the world of City & Guilds

1. Belfast Institute, now Belfast Metropolitan College, was our first centre to run the Level 3 Diploma in Playwork. Here Peter McCartney (Course Tutor), students Patricia Martin and Caroline Keenan, and Barbara McIlwrath (Internal Moderator) look over some of the assessment tasks.

2. Mandy James, National Manager Wales, presents Kirsty Thomas, Head of History at Lewis School, Wales, with the Champion Teacher Award, sponsored by City & Guilds, at the South Wales Echo Champion Awards in Cardiff held in October.

3. Creating a training programme and training centre for linesmen in order to win a National Grid contract, City & Guilds centre AMEC (UK Industrial Division) won a National Training Award in October.

4. City & Guilds Hairdressing Trainee Cherine Devsi receives an award from TV’s Tim Campbell at Uxbridge College’s Annual Awards Ceremony for her outstanding work.

5. Dr Philip Riseborough, City & Guilds’ Head of Higher Level Qualifications, meets Peter Oloo Okaka, a City & Guilds Honorary Member, to discuss developing centres to deliver Engineering Council examinations in Kenya.

6. Catherine Briffett and Peter Maskell of City & Guilds visit P&O’s Pride of Canterbury. P&O Ferries Limited is a City & Guilds centre for retail, hospitality and catering, assessor, verifier and trainer units and ILM management, in conjunction with Thanet College at Dover.

7. The winners of the Scottish Modern Apprenticeship Awards 2007 were announced in October at a ceremony in Edinburgh. They included Lauder College, a City & Guilds centre for furniture, which is working with FFINTO to train staff at Havelock Europa.

8. Education Services in Birmingham City Council has an innovative programme to train schools staff in health and safety. The first candidates received City & Guilds Certificates in Health and Safety in the Workplace in July.
