Intelligence Analysis - NVQ (No. 7240 )

This qualification has been developed with Skills for Justice, the Sector Skills Council for the Justice sector to establish a benchmark of excellence for intelligence analysis roles in the UK.

It is designed for those engaged in a variety of intelligence gathering/analysis duties. This may involve the application of sophisticated analytical techniques and making judgements based on intelligence analysis methodologies. Intelligence analysts may be employed as operational staff or support staff.

It is suitable for people working within the police force and wider policing family including the Serious Organised Crime Agency (SOCA) and HM Revenue & Customs. It may also be suitable for those working in army intelligence gathering roles either in the UK or abroad.


Qualification structure

To complete the qualification you must complete the following 8 mandatory units:

  • Discuss and develop terms of reference for an intelligence analysis product
  • Obtain and evaluate information for intelligence analysis
  • Apply analytical techniques to interpret information for intelligence analysis
  • Use inference development to make judgements based on intelligence analysis methodology
  • Develop recommendations from the results of the intelligence analysis methodology
  • Create an intelligence analysis product to support decision making
  • Disseminate the intelligence analysis product
  • Review the effective of the intelligence analysis product

Are there any entry requirements for learners?

There are no formal entry requirements for this NVQ; however you should ensure that your learners are in a position to demonstrate the performance evidence/underpinning knowledge requirements of this qualification.


How is the qualification assessed?

This is a work based NVQ which means learners are assessed in the workplace performing real work activities. In addition to observation, there is a range of other methods of assessment such as expert witness observation, professional discussion, accounts and case studies. In order to ensure that all requirements are met, assessors must determine the most appropriate mix of assessment methods.
