City & Guilds was one of a number of awarding bodies and sector skills councils to develop a range of models and materials to support the integration of literacy and numeracy learning within vocational programmes as part of a project funded by the Skills for Life Strategy Unit.

The Embedding Skills for Life Resource (PDF 1.03mb) document aims to support tutors and centres in embedding Skills for Life and key skills into candidates' core vocational courses. Its main feature is a task analysis tool which draws out and makes explicit the literacy and numeracy skills needed to complete vocational tasks successfully. It also describes how to 'SMOG' documents for readability.
