Continuing professional development (CPD)

City & Guilds has gained a high reputation in the field of vocational and N/SVQs for the quality of our service and our ability to respond to the needs of our customers.  Much of our success has been due to the expertise of you - our dedicated team of external verifiers.  You are seen by our centres not just as ‘auditors’ but as valuable sources of information, guidance and support.  To retain this level of expertise, it is important to keep up-to-date on developments.

Continuing Professional Development is the constant updating of professional skills and knowledge throughout working life.  This requires self-direction, self-management and responsiveness to the development opportunities offered by work experience.

You are responsible for keeping up to date with what’s going on in your sector and with policy and procedure.  We will, of course, make sure that we provide you with the information you need about your qualifications, centres and so on.   EVs attend two briefings every year.  One focuses on verification practice and the other is sector-specific and focuses on new qualifications and sector strategies.  We will also let you know about any workshops or events that you might find useful.

Progression and other opportunities for EVs

EVs with strong people-management skills can proceed to a role within the verification management team for that sector, such as Lead Verifier or ultimately Chief Verifier. There are also many opportunities for EVs to work with us as consultants on the development of new qualifications and assessments, or with the City & Guilds Policy team on verification documentation or training delivery.
